Vision and Values

Using our God-given gifts to let our light shine

Mawnan Church of England VA Primary School has been providing education for the children of local families since 1834.  Recognising its historic foundation, the school aims to serve the community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.  It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all children and staff.  The school is keen to preserve and strengthen its Christian vision and shares the CE vision for education: Our vision for education is deeply Christian, with Jesus' promise of 'life in all its fullness' at its heart

Our school sits at the heart of the community and is known for its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.  We are proud to be an integral part of village life and maintain excellent links with local organisations. It is important that our children have a true sense of place, identity and belonging, and are courageous advocates, who seek out opportunities to help others.

Our Vision

Our vision is for every child to experience life in all its fullness now and in the future. The light of Jesus inspires us to use our God-given gifts with pride so that we can shine together. We pursue excellence through our inspiring curriculum and nurturing environment. We shine brightly!

 Every member of our school has the opportunity to use their God-given gifts to truly let their light shine.  Our vision is to inspire all our children with the knowledge and imagination to develop these gifts; to develop happy, thoughtful, resilient children.

Learning is at the centre of all we do; we strive to provide an engaging education which appeals to the many interests of the children. We work hard and strive for excellence in our school; our aim is that everyone in our school reaches the highest standards of achievement possible whilst becoming confident and independent.

Our children enjoy the adventure of learning. Through their academic endeavours they discover, explore and rise to challenges. Their enquiring minds are ignited through learning and academic enrichment. We cultivate confidence well beyond the classroom by teaching children how to be life-long learners with the self-belief and skills needed to shape their future in the wider world.

Our Values
Our Christian values of compassion, respect, perseverance, trust, peace and hope, which underpin our vision, were established in collaboration with a range of members of the school community: children, parents, staff and governors.    We place great importance on living out our vision through the guiding principles of our values and children have the opportunity to recognise others who have demonstrated their gifts through our Christian values in their everyday lives. The staff forms a cohesive and supportive team who build on the individual gifts that the children bring to our community and make every child feel valued.

Our Christian Narrative

1 Peter 4.10 Each of you received a spiritual gift.  God has shown you grace in giving you different gifts.  And you are like servants who are responsible for using God’s gifts.  So be good servants and use your gifts to serve each other.

Matthew 5 14-16 You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people do not hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand.  Then the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people.  Live so they will see the good things you do.  Live so that they will praise your Father in heaven.

Our School vision and values are based in the Christian narrative of Jesus and in particular, the symbolism of spiritual gifts and shining a light on the individuals who together make up our wonderful community.

 The Sermon on the Mount

5 Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them:

True Happiness

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor;
    the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
“Happy are those who mourn;
    God will comfort them!
“Happy are those who are humble;
    they will receive what God has promised!
“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires;
    God will satisfy them fully!
“Happy are those who are merciful to others;
    God will be merciful to them!
“Happy are the pure in heart;
    they will see God!
“Happy are those who work for peace;
    God will call them his children!
10 “Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires;
    the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

11 “Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven. This is how the prophets who lived before you were persecuted.

13 “You are like salt for the whole human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it.

14 “You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven."
