Equalities Objectives Statement

Equality Statement

At Mawnan C of E VA Primary School we aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and ability to participate fully in school life.

Equality of opportunity is at the heart of our school’s Christian values of compassion, hope, trust, respect, peace and perseverance with a resolve that all pupils will do well regardless of their age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.  Our equalities statement is guided by our core values which we apply to all children regardless of background.

We are committed to developing a culture of inclusion. We celebrate the ways in which we are all unique, made in the image of God, whilst highlighting the many ways in which we are all similar. We are dedicated to ensuring equality of opportunity, in line with the Equality Act 2010, and endeavour for every child in our care to leave our school being the best that they can be and fulfilling their true potential.

 Our equalities statement, policy and objectives are guided by some core principles:

  • All learners are of equal value;
  • We recognise and respect difference;
  • We foster positive attitudes and relationships and a shared sense of community and belonging;
  • We observe good practice in recruitment, retention and staff development;
  • We aim to reduce and challenge barriers to equality that already exist.
Equality in the Curriculum

 We provide all our children with the opportunity to succeed and to reach the highest level of personal achievement. We do this by:

  • Ensuring equality of access for all pupils and preparing them for life in a diverse society
  • Using materials that reflect diversity without stereotyping
  • Promoting attitudes and values that challenge any discriminatory behaviour or prejudice
  • Providing opportunities for pupils to appreciate their own culture and celebrate the diversity of other cultures
  • Seeking to involve all parents in supporting their child’s education
  • Utilising teaching approaches appropriate for the whole school population which are inclusive and reflective of our pupils.
